Protecting the environment and advancing sustainability go hand in hand with our mission of improving and saving lives with diagnostics. From products to packaging, we work to incorporate environmental improvements that reduce waste, provide a greener alternative and/or help eliminate water consumption.

Eliminating water consumption

Through our dry technology, we have helped hospitals around the world save millions of liters of fresh water. It’s why you can find our VITROS® Systems on aircraft carriers and humanitarian aid ships, and in remote areas.

  • VITROS Systems do not introduce hazardous biomedical and chemical waste into the water supply.

  • VITROS XT MicroSlides and VITROS MicroSlide Technology use a small, postage-stamp-sized test format that does not result in liquid waste compared to traditional wet chemistry testing.

31 million gallons of water saved by a facility-wide initiative.

Reducing Waste

Our goal is a 5% reduction in the impact of total regulated and nonregulated waste through elimination, reclassification or diversion to more sustainable treatment methodologies by 2022.

Providing a greener alternative

Generating clean energy at our global facilities and incorporating environmentally friendly practices into our product manufacturing and packaging. We never stop assessing our global environmental impact and carbon footprint across our full supply chain and continue to find ways to help our customers create a more sustainable and eco-friendly world.

By 2022, we hope to save 14 million gallons of water, 100,000 pounds of waste and 8,360 million watts of energy.
