As health care teams began grappling with the impact of the global coronavirus pandemic in 2020, we developed and marketed the first high-volume antibody and antigen tests for COVID-19 with Emergency Use Authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
From launching the first product to determine Rh+ or Rh− blood type to developing the first tests for the detection of antibodies against HIV and hepatitis C to introducing the world’s first fully automated blood banking platform, we have helped shape immunohematology as it is known today.

When hospitals told us that they needed help managing their workflow, we learned that adaptability was the higher priority to meet customer needs instead of a focus on throughput and turnaround and in turn designed the ORTHO VISION® Analyzer.
A blood typing mistake can mean the difference between life and death. Reducing the chance for errors and enabling the highest level of safety for blood and plasma transfusions is critical. We are the only company in transfusion medicine that provides both serologic infectious disease screening, as well as blood typing at both the donor center and at the hospital.
